What do you get when you combine cocktails, cuisine, world renowned mixologist Christopher Cardone, and The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust? You get Cultured Cocktails! Cultured Cocktails is a celebration and opportunity to shine a light on the resurgence of The Steel City’s cocktail scene.
I had a chance to sit down with Greta Harper, the General Manager of Pirata and Cocktail Consultant for this event, about how this salacious sipping soiree came about. It is the mastermind of 3 people, Jacob Korb of The Cultural Trust, Ronda Zegarelli of Acrobatique, and Greta. They want a chance to give Pittsburgh bartenders more recognition for their hard work and hospitality. While highlighting all the events that the Cultural Trust is bringing to Pittsburgh this year.
The event will take place on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at The Benedum Center from 7:30pm to 10pm. Come prepared to sample 20 different cocktails and food pairings to go with. Some of the restaurants participating include: Or, The Whale, The Commoner, The Warren, Eddie Merlot, Tequila Cowboy, BRGR and Pirata.
One notable aspect of this event is that each cocktail must be themed after a play or event that The Cultural Trust is showcasing this year. Yuzu Kitchen is going with “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”; Monterey Bay’s concoction is “The Rainbow Fish” and Bakersfield’s cocktail will be themed after “The Waitress”.
This event is expected to bring out about 900 cocktail connoisseurs. VIP tickets are $95 and general admission is $45. The VIP gets you in a half hour early, open bar reception, 3 additional specialty cocktails, and 2 mocktails. The drinks in VIP were hand crafted by Greta Harper and Maggie Meskey, who is known as one of the Founding Mothers of Pittsburgh’s cocktail scene. If you don’t drink, consider purchasing a Designated Driver ticket at only $25, and indulged in the food fare instead.
In addition to the libations, DJ Selecta will be spinning, Dave & Buster’s will be there with a game suite and you’ll have the opportunity to vote for your favorite drink! Thanks to Greta, I am now a Judge! Greta states " I love putting women that work their tales off in good spots!" I am grateful, and can't wait to get my sip on!
