Smashburger in Monroeville, PA

“PittsBURGERS” love their hamburgers! That’s why Smashburgerin Monroeville is a must try. This already popular restaurant chain opened its doors in Monroeville in December 2014 and get their name from the unique way they create their burgers. The all-natural Angus beef patties start out as a ball and are “smashed” flat on a grill.

I visited the fast- casual restaurant for lunch twice in one week. The first time I decided to “Create My Own” burger.  I chose the Big Burger ($6.39), with a Classic Egg bun, goat cheese, lettuce, cucumbers, ketchup, mayo and ranch on the side. I also added a side of sweet potato fries ($2.49) and a Chocolate Oreo Milkshake ($4.59). I was given #37 and told to have a seat, and my waitress would bring my food. My meal didn’t take long at all. The over-sized patty was cooked impeccably and topped with creamy goat cheese. The sweet potato fries were a flawless golden brown and I could see the big pieces of Oreo’s in my milkshake, plus all of it couldn’t fit in my glass so they gave me the extras in a stainless steel cup. My eyes were satisfied, now it was time to satisfy my belly. I put the burger together and took my first bite. The combo was delicious. The meat was seasoned perfectly, and the egg bun was fresh and soft..oh…and the goat cheese, just took it to another flavor level. The sweet potato fries weren’t anything special (I’ve had better). The hand-spun chocolate milkshake was so *Breelicious*. I love chocolate, so this was perfect choice for me.  I was so full, all I wanted to do was take a nap.

As luck would have it, I had to venture out to Monroeville again two days later. It was destined for me to get another Smashburger. The second time I ordered The Bacon Cheeseburger ($6.69), and added a fried egg ($1.29)! Man, I love a fried egg on my burgers!! I also tried the PB&J Milkshake ($4.59) and a side of haystack onion straws ($2.49). While waiting for my meal, the restaurant’s lunch rush began. My food arrived shortly after and the burger looked and tasted even better than the first one did. That burger on that bread with that cheese and crispy bacon..and of course the egg..was a flavor explosion. The milkshake was more jelly that peanut butter, but it was tasty. The onion straws were on the same level as the fries..just ok.

Overall, I was very pleased with the burgers and shakes. The sides (fries and onion straws) need some work. I am hoping that my travels lead me back to Monroeville soon. I’ll definitely be grabbing another Smashburger!
